Task 1 Scheduling Questions

1) What is Station's "Music Format"?

Radio stations are divided into different categories depending on what audience they are aiming for. If their target audience is aged from 15-29, radio stations may decide to play trending music that is currently in the top charts, which may qualify the radio station as "Contemporary Hit/Top 40" format.

2) What is an A B C Playlist?

The radio station divides the music, that it has chosen to play, into different categories. It is done in order to separate trending music, that the majority of their audience listen to, from less popular songs. The "A" playlist contains the most popular songs, that the audience wants to hear, and the music that defines radio's format, which are played 3-4 times a day. The "B" playlist includes songs that are played 2 times a day, and are less popular than the songs in the playlist "A". The last playlist "C" used to play songs that are new and/or not very notorious, as well as it keeps the variety.

3) What is "Music Scheduling"?

The Songs from "A, B, C" playlists are being put together; in order to create a variety, as well as to define the format of the radio.
The songs from "A" playlist would be used in the beginning of a radio show as well as for closing. New and/or not well known songs from playlist "C" will be put in between more trending songs from playlist "A" and "B".
The radio's aim is to create a show that will meet the target audience's needs, and would not sound too repetitive while maintaining its format and making the audience wanting to listen to it.

5)  There are many techniques that are used in order to keep audience interested. One of them is to scatter trending songs in order to evade too much of repetitiveness, and to not make the audience to wait for the popular songs that they like. Another technique is to keep new songs to a minimum and play one of the hit songs before and after the new song.
